Message from the Executive Vice President
The International Student Support Fund was initiated primarily through donations from UTokyo faculty and staff, and its circle of support has gradually expanded to include alumni and other sponsors outside the UTokyo community.
The uses of the fund, as described above, truly offer a safety net for UTokyo’s international students, with one-of-a-kind programs such as the provision of lump-sum loans and consolation allowances.
However, declining revenue from donations in recent years has meant that we have been forced to dip into our endowment funds to provide scholarships. If this trend continues, we will soon have little choice but to consider measures such as the suspension of our scholarship program.
Attracting outstanding international students is an important challenge for the University, and we ask for your continued support and cooperation in expanding our donor base to revitalize this fund, which plays a role in developing the foundation of our international program.
