Currently, the coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19 ) is spreading exponentially worldwide, and Japan is no exception. With the alarming number of patients increasing predominantly in the cities, we do not yet see when the situation will return to normal.
At the University of Tokyo, we have swiftly shifted toward online education to ensure continuous learning opportunities for our students. Some special measures have been implemented to help meet the students’ individual technological needs for internet access so that no student is disadvantaged.
With the University’s robust research capabilities, we are leveraging our expertise to advance research and development on COVID-19 in various fields. As announced earlier, we have successfully identified drugs that are already available domestically that can be effective to combat the spread. At the forefront of medical practice, we are busy improving our medical care system, including introducing the most advanced testing equipment to meet the continually evolving needs for virus treatments.
There is so much more that needs to be done in addition to the above actions we have taken. To be able to address the numerous issues, it is critical for us to have more stable financial base. In these unprecedented times, the University, as a center of 140-years’ wealth of knowledge, is determined to concentrate our world-class intellectual excellence to fight off this new threat facing humanity.
In the hope of regaining our safe and normal lives as quickly as possible, we wish to enlist your continued support.
Period and Uses
1st term: April 20, 2020 - June 30, 2020
Donations received during the first term will be used for medical countermeasures against coronavirus infections (development of therapeutic drugs and vaccines, development of testing kits, enhancement of the medical system, etc.). To ensure agility, the decision of these uses will be made by the President based on the recommendations from the Steering Committee of COVID-19 Emergency Action Fund.
Receipts and Inquiries
To help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, all employees of the University of Tokyo Foundation Office are currently working from home. It is difficult for us to issue the receipts at this time. We will take care of them as soon as the declaration of a state of emergency is lifted, and our operation resumes. We are not able to respond to your inquiries by phone, either.
